Summer Sizzle planned

Valley Assembly of God is launching its Summer Sizzle program on Wednesday nights beginning this week.

The program for all ages will begin at 7 p.m. each week through Aug. 29 (excluding July 4).

There will be games, snacks and Bible lessons for kids and Bible study for adults.

Buddhism retreat

A Buddhism retreat titled Steps for Positive Change will be Friday and next Saturday at Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute, 4000 W. Randolph Road.

The overnight retreat will be led by Bhante Seelawimala, professor of Buddhist studies at the Institute of Buddhist Studies in Berkeley, Calif., and a Sri Lankan Theravada monk.

The cost is $60, which includes lodging and meals.

Christian singles barbecue

Christian Singles Fellowship is inviting all local Christian singles to its sixth annual singles barbecue picnic next Saturday at the Liberty Lake County Park picnic shelter.

Various family-friendly activities are planned from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and children are welcome.

A barbecue lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m.

Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for kids in advance, or $5 for adults and $3 for kids at the gate.

Park admission is an additional $2 for adults and $1 for kids.

The park is at 3707 S. Zephyr Road. In Liberty Lake, turn south on Lakeside Drive from Molter Road and turn right at Zephyr.
