In brief: Kings settle on Theus after two-month search
The Sacramento Kings reached an agreement in principle Tuesday with Reggie Theus to become their new coach, ending a meandering two-month search for Eric Musselman’s replacement.
Kings spokesman Troy Hanson said the club plans to introduce Theus, the New Mexico State coach and a former Kings player, at a news conference today.
Theus, who transformed the New Mexico State program into an NCAA tournament club in just two seasons, has never coached in the NBA.
“The Houston Rockets hired four assistant coaches, including former NBA All-Star Jack Sikma.
R.J. Adelman, the oldest son of new head coach Rick Adelman, will also join the staff, along with Elston Turner and T.R. Dunn.
Sikma, a seven-time All-Star center, was an assistant in Seattle for the past four seasons.
“Former NBA All-Star Vin Baker, whose 14-year career was marred by bouts of depression and alcoholism, was charged with drunken driving in Norwich, Conn., after leaving a casino.
“The Minnesota Timberwolves hired John-Blair Bickerstaff as an assistant coach. Bickerstaff spent the past three seasons as an assistant with Charlotte under his father, Bernie Bickerstaff.
“Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss is facing two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence in connection with his May 29 arrest in Carlsbad, Calif.
The district attorney’s office filed one count each of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent.
“A state appeals court in Manhattan dismissed former basketball star Latrell Sprewell’s libel suit against the New York Post over the newspaper’s account of how he broke his finger nearly five years ago when he got into a fight on his boat.

Unable to break par against the women, Michelle Wie is taking a break from competing against the men.
Wie, 17, decided to withdraw from the John Deere Classic as she tries to return from wrist injuries that have sent her into a slump.
“John Daly won the Telus World Skins event in Thornbury, Ontario, for the second straight year. Daly took 12 skins for $220,000.
“Stewart Cink and J.J. Henry reeled off six straight birdies on the back nine en route to a one-stroke victory over Brad Faxon and Zach Johnson in the CVS Caremark Charity Classic in Barrington, R.I.

Bruins mum on coach
The Boston Bruins remained silent about a new coach amid reports that they had settled on former New Jersey Devils coach Claude Julien to replace Dave Lewis.
“Steve Loney, a former Iowa State offensive coordinator, was named the new football coach at Drake.
“Ukrainian Serhiy Honchar, 36, was fired by the T-Mobile cycling team following the results of blood tests.
“Frank Schleck attacked during a grueling climb in Triesenberg-Malbun, Liechtenstein, to win the fourth stage of the Tour de Suisse and take the leader’s yellow jersey from CSC teammate Fabian Cancellara.
