Area roundup: East Valley will host All-State girls games
Six teams will compete Saturday at the Washington All-State girls basketball games at East Valley High.
The event will begin with the B East against the B West at 1:30 p.m. The 1A East plays the 1A West at 3:30, and the 3A/2A East plays the 3A/2A West at 5:30.
Dave Eastwood of Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) will coach the 3A/2A West.
Lakeside’s Tom Oliver is the tournament director.
All-day admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and children 12 and younger.
Hockey
The Spokane Chiefs will complete their six-game exhibition schedule with a Sept. 14 home game against the Tri-City Americans at Eagles Ice-A-Rena, the club announced.
Spokane will play in Everett’s preseason tournament, Aug. 31 through Sept. 2, with games against the Portland Winter Hawks, Tri-City and the Seattle Thunderbirds.
The Chiefs will travel to Kennewick’s Toyota Center to play Portland on Sept. 7 and the host the Americans on Sept. 8.
Swimming
The Spokane Area Swimming Team’s annual Summer Solstice meet, expected to draw 500 participants from seven states, begins today at Witter Pool.
The meet will run from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
