In brief: Police to assess public’s opinion of department

The Spokesman-Review

The Coeur d’Alene Police Department will conduct a community opinion survey beginning Tuesday.

The phone survey is part of an ongoing assessment of the department, which will soon have a new chief. Police Chief Wendy Carpenter plans to retire this summer, and the city has selected three finalists in the search to replace her.

Results of the assessment will be used in the hiring process and to help the next chief develop long-range goals and plans for the department.

“We really want to know what areas of public safety our citizens are most concerned about, how satisfied they are with the services as they are being delivered now, and what opinions they have regarding future public safety services,” City Administrator Wendy Gabriel said in a press release.

A telephone survey company will call 350 citizens selected at random.

The Police Department said no personal information will be asked of those who participate, other than age, address and length of residence in Coeur d’Alene.

Ironman forces buses to change routes

The CityLink Bus Service will alter its routes Sunday in the North Idaho College and downtown Coeur d’Alene areas because of the Ironman competition.

Buses will not have access to stops at NIC, the Coeur d’Alene Resort and along Mullan Avenue. Instead, a temporary route has been established from the Riverstone transfer point, going east on Foster Avenue.

Buses will stop at Foster Avenue and Fourth Street, and Foster and Seventh Street. The route will jog slightly south for Garden Avenue stops at 11th and 15th streets.

The Hayden, Hayden Lake and Post Falls routes will remain uninterrupted.

CityLink is a cooperative effort of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, the Kootenai Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Idaho Department of Transportation.

It services two urban routes in Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls and Hayden; a rural route through Tensed/DeSmet, Plummer and Worley; and a link connecting Riverstone with the Coeur d’Alene Casino.
