In brief: Second phase of PUD planned
Spokane Valley has begun processing an application for the second phase of a controversial housing development in the Ponderosa neighborhood.
Plans for the Ponderosa PUD would divide 17 acres in the city south of 44th Avenue and west of Farr Road into 81 lots for single-family houses.
A 100-house subdivision in Spokane County adjacent to the new project prompted a 1 1/2 year legal fight with neighbors who feared the two exits from the neighborhood would not be able to handle the new residents in the event of a forest fire.
A judge last year ruled in favor of developer Lanzce Douglass, who is in the process of receiving a mitigated determination of nonsignificance from the city for the new subdivision.
The comment period for the MDNS ends June 29.
