With Internet skills, the job only gets easier

I want to start off by saying, until I started my career with Robert Half International 10 years ago, I had never used a computer, had any Web knowledge nor did I ever have the need to type. I know you may find that shocking … but it’s true.

The moral of my story is, if I can learn the computer and get comfortable surfing the Web, anyone can.

For starters

Like others, I visit google.com to find out about anything. And when I need to track down a rumor, it’s snopes.com. That’s where I go when I find an Internet “too good to be true” offer.

Work

In my job, I am always on the Web. This is the way I learn about jobs and people who are looking for jobs. Some of my favorites to check out include: Careerbuilder.com, Monster.com, Indeed.com and Spokanehasjobs.com.

Training

My personal trainer, Cindy Bourgoin, has turned me on to Fitday.com. This site tracks my daily activity, exercise and what I feed my body. I love this site because it helps balance the meals and snacks I eat. It lets me know what I need more or less of.

My biggest a-ha from getting involved with this site is that I now know what my body needs on a daily basis. It also has helped me maintain my weight loss. I lost 22 pounds after starting with a trainer last year.

Before I started with Fitday.com, I had no idea about proportions. What does a 4-ounce slice of meat look like? Do I need to weigh everything I eat? No!

I love this, and it’s free.

Shopping

I also love to shop. As you may know, some of the stores I love to shop at are not in Spokane yet. Here are a few worth mentioning: www.kohls.com (coming to Spokane in late fall 2007); Ikea.com and Containerstore.com.

Travel sites

I also frequent airline sites to find a warm place to visit in the winter months. The best deals I have found are at Cheapoair.com, Expedia.com and cheaptickets.com.
