Lakers want to add Garnett

The owners of the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves have begun talks for a trade that would involve sending Kevin Garnett to the Lakers, NBA sources said Monday.

A multiteam trade discussion is under way involving the Lakers, Timberwolves, Indiana Pacers and possibly a fourth team, with the Lakers getting Garnett and the Pacers getting Lamar Odom and teenage center Andrew Bynum from the Lakers. Another minor player will probably be added to make the deal work financially.

Another source said the Lakers are dealing directly with Minnesota in a swap that would not necessarily involve other teams.

Such a move could address the concerns of Kobe Bryant, who has demanded to be traded for more than four weeks.

Shadle’s Brown commits to WSU

Anthony Brown, who will be a junior at Shadle Park, has made an oral commitment to play for Washington State.

“Over washing dishes, he said, ‘I think I’m ready,’ ” said his mother, Angela.

She said Brown had been offered a scholarship in February, but waited until now to make his decision.

He said coaches told him at the time they saw plenty of potential and that when he reached his peak he could be a special player. But he figured there was plenty of time to decide. While participating in a camp there last weekend the time was right.

Brown has spent two years on the Highlanders varsity, scoring as many as 21 points in a game as a freshman and averaging 14.2 points in 27 games last season when they were a win away from qualifying for state.

“Without a doubt they are a really good defensive team and that is one of the reasons I did commit there,” said Brown. “I really liked the coaches and just like the overall way they play as a team.”

The last Greater Spokane League player to join the Cougar basketball program was Shadle Park graduate Rob Corkrum in 1990.
