Battle in Seattle: Zags vs. Vols

Gonzaga will take on Tennessee in the Battle in Seattle next basketball season, according to John Hines of Northwest Sports Entertainment.

The game will be Dec. 29 at Seattle’s KeyArena with tickets going on sale in September.

The annual game started in 2003 with a Gonzaga overtime win over No. 3 Missouri. In 2004, the Zags beat Massachusetts; Adam Morrison banked in a last-second shot to beat Oklahoma State in 2005; and Nevada beat GU last season.

The Vols finished 24-11 last season and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament with wins over Long Beach State and Atlantic Coast Conference co-champion Virginia. SEC Player of the Year Chris Lofton (pictured) returns for his senior season. The second-team All-American averaged 20.8 ppg last year.

Oakland also recalled infielder Donnie Murphy, another former Indians player.

To make room, outfielder Travis Buck (Richland) was placed on the D.L.
