Twins 11, Tigers 1: At Detroit, Joe Mauer hit his first career grand slam and Johan Santana scattered five hits over six innings, leading Minnesota past the Tigers. Santana allowed one run, striking out six and walking one. Justin Morneau had three hits and drove in two runs for the Twins.

Yankees 2, Athletics 1: At New York, Mike Mussina pitched seven sharp innings and the Yankees beat Oakland. Alex Rodriguez had three hits for New York. Mussina allowed one run and six hits. He struck out three and walked one.

Indians 2, Devil Rays 1: At Cleveland, Ben Francisco led off the bottom of the ninth inning with his first major league home run and Cleveland beat Tampa Bay. Grady Sizemore walked and stole his 23rd base, a career high, in the third for Cleveland.

Red Sox 2, Rangers 1: At Boston, Manny Delcarmen struck out Sammy Sosa on a 96 mph, full-count fastball with the bases loaded to preserve the win for Tim Wakefield and give the Red Sox a victory over Texas. Wakefield gave up one run and seven hits.

Angels 9, Orioles 7: At Baltimore, Aubrey Huff hit for the cycle, but Los Angeles got a tiebreaking two-run homer from Howie Kendrick in the ninth inning and beat the Orioles. Kendrick connected off Chris Ray with two outs. The Angels blew a five-run lead and trailed 7-5 in the seventh before rallying.

Royals 8, White Sox 1: At Kansas City, Mo., Shane Costa and Esteban German drove in two runs apiece, leading Kansas City past Chicago. Brian Bannister went six strong innings for the Royals, who have their first five-game winning streak in two years.
