Fish and Game asks Blaine County to reject project
HAILEY, Idaho – The Idaho Department of Fish and Game has recommended that the Blaine County Planning and Zoning Commission reject a proposed subdivision that the state agency fears could significantly affect habitat used by elk, mule deer and sage grouse.
The department told commission members they should reject the proposed 338-unit Cove Springs development about five miles south of Bellevue in central Idaho.
David Parrish, supervisor of Fish and Game’s Magic Valley region, said he could not recall the agency recommending denial of a subdivision. He said the department and developers usually can work out problems.
He said that hasn’t happened with applicants Steve Beevers, Anna Mathieu, Jan Edelstein and Cynthia and John Miley.
Fish and Game is concerned that the development, which could house as many as 1,000 residents, could hurt wildlife.
Farmers said they are concerned about water rights the development might have in the area.
