Griz, Vikings in semifinals

Mike Chavez scored 16 points Saturday and Montana rallied from a 13-point deficit to beat Idaho State 70-63 in overtime in the first round of the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball tournament in Missoula.

Montana (17-14) advances to the semifinals against Northern Arizona on Tuesday at Weber State in Ogden, Utah.

Portland State 96, Montana State 71: At Portland, the Vikings (19-12) scored 60 points and shot 72 percent in the second half in a rout of the Bobcats (11-19) in the other quarterfinal game.

The Vikings advance to the conference semifinals against host Weber State.

Carlos Taylor scored a game-high 23 for Montana State.
