Houston hopes Green will solve running woes
The Houston Texans agreed to terms with free agent running back Ahman Green on Sunday.
The 30-year-old former Green Bay Packer will likely become the starter for a team that struggled at the position last season after Domanick Williams – formerly Davis – missed the year with knee problems.
Terms of the contract were not immediately available.
•The Dallas Cowboys agreed to terms with free agent offensive lineman Leonard Davis on a seven-year contract worth nearly $50 million, a story posted on the team’s official Web site reported.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys picked up wide receiver Terry Glenn’s $5 million roster bonus, virtually assuring he will remain with the team.
•Free agent defensive end Dewayne White signed a five-year contract worth $29 million – $13 million guaranteed – with the Lions.
•Free-agent fullback B.J. Askew signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
•The Jacksonville Jaguars believe they found a legitimate deep threat in free agency, agreeing to a five-year contract with former Cleveland receiver Dennis Northcutt.
The contract was reportedly worth $17 million and included a $4.5-million signing bonus.
•Arkansas State University football coach Houston Nutt and his mother escaped injury when the landing gear on their plane collapsed during an emergency landing in Fayetteville, Ark.
The pilot was also unharmed.

Davis outdoes himself
U.S. speedskater Shani Davis broke his own world record at 1,500 meters at the World Cup final in Calgary, Alberta.
Davis, a silver medalist at the 2006 Turin Games, finished in 1 minute, 42.32 seconds to lower the mark of 1:42.68 he set March 19, 2006, at Calgary’s Olympic Oval.
•World champion Mario Matt won his second straight World Cup slalom, and Benjamin Raich finished second to reclaim the lead in the overall standings.
Matt, who trailed Raich after the opening leg by 0.04 seconds, raced down the twisting track at Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, in a combined time of 1 minute, 40.64 seconds. Raich made it an Austrian 1-2 finish, 0.61 behind Matt. Manfred Moelgg of Italy was third, 0.96 back.
•Kenyan Fred Mogaka outran countryman Moses Kororia in the last mile in Los Angeles to win the Los Angeles Marathon and its battle-of-the-sexes challenge.
Kororia and another Kenyan, Christopher Kipyego, passed eventual women’s winner Ramilia Burangolova in the 25th mile. But Mogaka surged ahead of all three and finished in 2 hours, 17 minutes, 14 seconds.
•Lleyton Hewitt won the Tennis Channel Open for the third time, outlasting fourth-seeded Jurgen Melzer 6-4, 7-6 in the final in Las Vegas.
In the men’s doubles final, top-seeded brothers Bob and Mike Bryan successfully defended their title, winning their 12th straight match at the event with a 7-6 (6), 6-2 victory over Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram.
•David Beckham suffered a potentially serious injury to his right knee, but the extent of the damage will not be known until after medical tests are performed today.
