Calling all new gardeners

We're coming up on the time of year when Spokane Valley gardeners check their gardens for signs of life and check the top of Mica Peak to see if the snow is gone. But gardeners new to the area or new to the digging in the dirt lifestyle might have a lot of questions about when to plant and what to plant.

The Spokane County/WSU Master Gardeners are starting beginning gardening classes for those new to the hobby. The four-class series is held on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon on March 17 and 24 and April 7 and 14. The classes will be at the Spokane County Extension Education Center, 222 N. Havana. The cost is $30 per person or family. Early registration is advised. Call 477-2048 for more information.

It's a plane!

Any young child who has been bitten by the aviation bug might want to check out the Spokane Valley Library's after-school special this week. The theme of this month's event is the Wright Brothers and there will be crafts and stories built around the wonder of flight. There will of course be treats to satisfy that afternoon snack urge. The event for children in grades K-5 is 4 p.m. Tuesday at the library, 12004 E. Main Ave. Call 926-6283 for more details.
