Self-defense workshop Tuesday at NIC
Learn how to recognize and avoid danger during “Common Sense Self-Defense,” a free self-defense workshop, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Lake Coeur d’Alene Room of North Idaho College’s Edminster Student Union Building.
The workshop will be led by Greg Beeman and Susan Toulme, who are certified instructors from Common Sense Self-Defense Northwest. Beeman is a black belt in the Filipino art of Combat Arnis and a 15-year veteran law enforcement officer who is an instructor in police defensive tactics and firearms. Toulme works with Common Sense Self-Defense Northwest with an emphasis on women’s personal protection.
The two will teach that self-defense is about security and the best approach to security is avoidance of dangerous situations. The session will focus on crime prevention as well as techniques to survive a close-range attack.
The workshop is free and open to the public. Free popcorn will be provided to participants. The workshop is sponsored by NIC Counseling Services as part of the Food for Thought series. For more information, call 769-5970.
