Chiefs honor Shadle product Ryan as Player of the Year
The Spokane Chiefs handed out their year-end awards Saturday night before their game with the Kootenay Ice.
The team also honored its three 20-year-olds in their final regular-season home game: Derek Ryan, Evan Haw, and Stephane Lenoski.
Ryan, a Shadle High graduate and product of local youth hockey programs, was selected as the Player of the Year.
Veteran Chris Bruton and rookie Mitch Wahl earned two awards apiece.
Wahl won the team’s scholastic award and Rookie of the Year honor. Bruton won the Player’s Player and the Humanitarian of the Year awards.
Ondrej Roman, another rookie, won the sportsmanship award. Haw was named top defenseman.
The “three stars” awards went to: Michael Grabner (1st); David Rutherford (2nd); and Kevin Armstrong (3rd).
