Community update: U.N. group event will aid minefield clearing

The United Nations Association Spokane Chapter on Monday is hosting a Night of a 1,000 Dinners potluck, where attendees can “adopt a minefield.”

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive.

The suggested donation is $10, and proceeds will contribute to clearing landmines, helping landmine survivors and raising public awareness.

Wishing Star wine social

On Friday, Wishing Star Foundation’s first “Taste Spokane Wine with a Bling” wine social, featuring samples from many of Spokane’s finest restaurants and area wineries, with desserts and more, will begin at 5 p.m.

Held at Northern Quest Casino, 100 N. Hayford Road, the event will include live music from Night Cap Jazz Band, spa services and a raffle.

Entry tickets are $5, tasting tickets are $2, and spa tickets are $10 for the first three and $5 for additional tickets.

Proceeds will benefit the Wishing Star Foundation.

Sacred Heart Women’s Show

The Sacred Heart Medical Center’s Women’s Show will be held at the Spokane Convention Center, 334 W. Spokane Falls Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. next Sunday.

Highlights of this year’s event will include a New York fashion show, a “Battle of the Chefs” cook-off, and a bachelor auction on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Admission is $5, free for children under 12. Proceeds will help in purchasing new digital mammography equipment for the Women’s Health Center Mobile Clinic.

St. Patrick’s benefit

The St. Patrick’s School Alumni Association will hold its 17th annual auction and dinner benefit Saturday in the Pend Oreille Pavilion Center at Northern Quest Casino, 100 N. Hayford Road.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. with a silent auction. Dinner and a live auction will follow.

Items included in the auctions are greens fees to the Coeur d’Alene Resort golf course, an autographed Gonzaga University basketball and a patio table set.

Tickets are $25. Proceeds will benefit St. Patrick’s Catholic School.

Tickets must be purchased by Tuesday.
