Leise, Broncs buck Cougars

Jonathan Leise connected for a two-run home run in the sixth inning to lead Rider past Washington State 4-1 in Sunday’s non-conference game at Pullman.

Mike Petrowski threw eight innings for the Broncs (2-5), limiting the Cougars (8-6) to three hits.

WSU’s Greg Lagreid singled home Mike Gilbert in the eighth.

•Whitworth’s Van Lierman hit his first home run of the season, but the Pirates fell to Lewis & Clark 10-6 in Northwest Conference play at Portland.

•Community Colleges of Spokane (3-5) finished the Spokane Invitational Tournament with a 1-3 record after a a 2-0 loss to Lane and a 5-4 10-inning loss to tournament champion Bellevue at Spokane Falls CC.

Softball

Lindsay Davis went 4 for 6 with three RBIs and three runs scored on the day, helping Whitworth (11-0, 8-0) in Northwest Conference wins of 9-3 and 9-1 over Pacific Lutheran (6-4, 4-4) in Spokane.

Men’s golf

Washington shot a 10-over 298 in the final round to finish 12th at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship in Las Vegas, Nev.
