Cabinet makes most of empty corners

Don and Dave Runyan U-Bild

No matter how much storage space a home has, it seems like there’s always a need for more. When you consider that most rooms in a typical house contain four empty corners, however, the solution to the storage problem becomes obvious. A corner cabinet is an attractive and efficient way to put some of that space to good use.

As versatile as it is handsome, this do-it-yourself version is equally at home in the family room, dining room or bedroom. It features three big shelves, perfect for collectibles, books or dishes, over a lower cabinet that’s just right for table linens, CDs, DVDs or almost anything else.

What you need

The cabinet is made from veneer plywood (we used maple) and features almost all straight cuts and a full-size pattern for the two curved cuts. Construction is simple: Lay out the pieces on plywood, cut everything out and assemble using glue and nails. The project may be finished clear (as pictured), stained or painted to match any decor.

The completed corner cabinet measures about 72 inches tall by 27 inches across the front by 24 inches deep on each of the other two sides.

How to order the plan

The Corner Cabinet plan, No. 888, is $9.95 and includes step-by-step instructions with photos, full-size traceable patterns, construction diagrams, a materials list and cutting layout and a toll-free help line.

A package of corner cabinet plans, No. C138, is $22.95 and includes plans for this project plus a corner curio cabinet and a corner TV cabinet. A catalog picturing hundreds of do-it-yourself projects is $2. Please include $4 for postage and handling (except catalog-only orders) and allow about two weeks for delivery.
