Debts forcing small private school to close
A small, private Coeur d’Alene school will close soon because of financial shortfalls.
“It was just the expenses basically that caused the problem,” said Donna Cork. “There were more issues than we had initially thought.”
Cork was interim director of School Indigo but said she submitted her resignation for “personal reasons.” She said it hasn’t been decided when the school will close.
Back taxes and overdue rent are among the school’s outstanding debts. Coupled with waning enrollment, the owed money is too much for the school to pay and still operate, Cork said. Fifty-one students are enrolled at the school, down from 61 in January.
The school is holding a fundraiser Saturday at the home of KJ Torgerson, the school’s treasurer, to help with the debt.
Tickets are $50 per person. For more information and directions to the home, call (208) 765-1555.
