Her true colors are a rainbow

From Wire Reports The Spokesman-Review

For some people, Cyndi Lauper‘s classic “True Colors” is just another love song.

But as Lauper learned from reading fans’ letters, for others, the song’s lyrics about letting “your true colors shine through” had a much deeper meaning.

“A lot of people were saying that when it came out (in 1986) they were teenagers and they were coming out,” says Lauper, a longtime gay rights supporter.

“They were disowned by their family and their friends and their jobs got all messed up and they were totally alone, and suicidal, and then they heard ‘True Colors’ and it made them feel hopeful.”

So it’s fitting that Lauper, 53, is one of the headliners on the new “True Colors” tour, which will hit major cities nationwide to promote gay rights.

Other performers for the 15-city event, which kicks off in Las Vegas on June 8 and ends in Los Angeles on June 30, include Deborah Harry, Erasure and Margaret Cho.

It’s a b-o-y

Tori Spelling not only gave birth to a son on Tuesday, she’s apparently patching up her strained relationship with her mother.

The 33-year-old actress and her actor husband, Dean McDermott, welcomed 6-pound, 6-ounce Liam Aaron McDermott at a Los Angeles hospital – and her mother, Candy Spelling, was also on hand.

“I am looking forward to doting on my new little grandson and all the memorable fun that comes with it,” said the elder Spelling, who’s reportedly been estranged from her daughter.

The proud parents next star in the reality series “Tori & Dean: Inn Love,” premiering Tuesday on Oxygen, which will follow them as they open a bed and breakfast.

But is he still a heel?

The estranged father of actress Lindsay Lohan has been released from a New York state prison after almost two years.

Michael Lohan had been jailed since June 30, 2005, on charges including attempted assault – for an attack on his brother-in-law at a party – and driving while intoxicated from an incident where his car hit a pole and was engulfed in flames (he escaped without injury).

Now that he’s a free man, he says, he wants to repair his unsteady relationship with his 20-year-old daughter.

“I’m going to wait, and when she sees I’m walking the walk, I’m hopeful she’ll open the door,” the elder Lohan says.

Unless, of course, he croaks

Fans of The Who left a Tampa, Fla., amphitheater disappointed Tuesday after lead singer Roger Daltrey walked off the stage during the band’s first song.

“I just talked to Roger and he can barely speak,” guitarist Pete Townshend told the crowd, explaining that Daltrey had bronchitis.

“I tried to get him to come out here, but he’s really, really sick.”

The concert was rescheduled for March 25.
