Music : Sextet returns to perform at UI
The renowned new music sextet – eighth blackbird – returns to the University of Idaho’s Auditorium Chamber Music Series on Tuesday with a concert titled “Strange Imaginary Animals.”
In its third appearance at UI, the ensemble of piano, flute, clarinet, violin, cello and percussion will perform works written within the past 25 years by Joseph Schwantner, Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez, Franco Donatoni, Gordon Fitzell, Stephen Hartke and Derek Bermel.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors, $8 for students, at www.auditoriumchambermusic.org or at Book People in downtown Moscow.
Jazz piano at Whitworth
Grammy-nominated jazz pianist Mark Levine will present a free recital Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Whitworth College’s Music Building Recital Hall.
Levine, whose 2003 album “Isla” was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Latin Jazz Recording category, has worked with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, Mongo Santamaria, Willie Bobo and Cal Tjader.
