Sold on Gonzaga

The Spokesman-Review

Like thousands of others, I was disappointed with the outcome of the “March Madness” basketball game between the Zags and Indiana. I am not an “armchair coach,” but the efforts by our team in that game seemed abnormally disjointed.

I do not know any of those young men, personally, but feel that I do. I am really going to miss Derek Raivio and Sean Mallon, but I’m looking forward to watching David Pendergraft, Matt Bouldin and others mature. I also believe Mark Few is an outstanding coach and positive role model. I have never had such positive feelings about any coach in any sport.

I relocated to Spokane from Colorado last year. Even though there are some pretty good sports teams there, I never took much of an interest. After moving to Spokane, I became absolutely hooked on Gonzaga basketball.

I did have one of those “six degrees” connections with Matt Bouldin, his being from Colorado, too, and actually sharing a flight and talking with him in the Denver and Spokane airports at Christmas. I nicknamed him “The Colorado Kid,” like a gunfighter in the old west, a winning gunfighter. I expect him to live up to that.

Thank you, GU, for a great welcome to Spokane.
