Hints from Heloise

The Spokesman-Review

Dear Readers: Have you ever come home from work and realized that you have nothing planned for dinner yet, and everyone is asking, “When are we going to eat?” Sound familiar?

Instead of ordering fast food, you can whip up a healthy and hearty soup with all those leftovers in the refrigerator. Just grab a big pot or saucepan, add a few cups of water and some beef, chicken or vegetable bouillon. Look in the fridge for any leftover vegetables, rice or pasta, meat or chicken, and cut into bite-size pieces. Season with your favorite spices and simmer for a few minutes. Hopefully, your family won’t recognize the leftovers, and you will have saved time and money. I have other quick-and-easy soup recipes, plus a bunch of unusual, tasty Heloise favorites, in my Spectacular Soups pamphlet. To order one, send $4 and a long, self-addressed, stamped (63 cents) envelope to: Heloise/Soup, P.O. Box 795001, San Antonio, TX 78279-5001. – Heloise
