Let’s bring NASCAR here

The Spokesman-Review

Why not Spokane?

We have the auto race track already built – granted it needs a little tuning up, but the basics are there. This race track could be the Bristol (Tenn.) of the Pacific Northwest. It’s a great facility.

The drag strip (at Spokane Raceway Park) is an added bonus. NASCAR likes a drag strip on its properties, plus there is enough room for a dirt track, also.

We have a race facility that’s in limbo so let’s get off our duff and get some letters going to Daytona Beach, Fla., telling them how great we are and that we can get the job done of bringing NASCAR to the Northwest. What an opportunity. We can draw people from Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, Boise, and God knows those crazy Canadians will come from Edmonton, Calgary and Lethbridge, plus the good folks of Montana.

We have the hotel rooms between Spokane, Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint to pull this off. You can do like they do at Indianapolis and rent out your house for a week.

Spokane has the best race fans of any city I’ve been to and they deserve a shot at this, so come on Spokane. We can do it.
