Collision injures Washtucna woman

A collision near Washtucna, Wash., left two vehicles totaled and a 90-year-old woman in serious condition at Sacred Heart Medical Center on Wednesday.

Bonnie J. Hamill, of Washtucna, was driving a 1994 Honda Accord west on state Highway 26 when she turned in front of a 1995 Mitsubishi Montero SUV headed in the opposite direction, the Washington State Patrol said.

The crash sent the Honda into the opposite lane, and the Mitsubishi rolled and came to rest on its side, next to the roadway, troopers said. The collision was near the intersection with Highway 261.

The 24-year-old driver of the SUV, Tina M. Zitlau, of Boise, was injured but refused aid at the scene, troopers said.

The crash is still under investigation.

Woman escapes from robber

A woman had to fight off a man who robbed her Monday night, fleeing to the middle of a street to get help.

Mark V. Feyen was soon arrested and booked on a charge of first-degree robbery, according to court records filed this week.

In those records, police say a woman was standing near Fourth Avenue and Madison Street about 11:30 p.m. Monday when a man with a bloody face approached her.

The woman asked the man if he needed medical help but instead the man grabbed the woman’s keys, saying, “That’s mine.” He then grabbed onto the woman’s purse, saying, “That’s mine too.”

A struggle followed, and the woman was thrown onto the ground and Feyen beat her on the back, according to the documents.

The woman broke free and ran into the middle of the street to get help. Feyen ran away, police said, and officers later caught him near Fifth Avenue and Monroe Street.
