Cougars’ offense impresses
PULLMAN – The Washington State offense flexed its muscles during the first full football scrimmage of the spring Friday afternoon at Martin Stadium.
The Cougars’ offense accounted for 371 total yards, 260 through the passing game and 111 on the ground.
Senior Alex Brink got things going for the WSU offense, finding Keith Rosenberg for a 24-yard touchdown for the first score of the afternoon. Backup Gary Rogers threw for two touchdowns.
Brink completed 7 of 8 passes for 53 yards and one touchdown and Rogers ended his day 9 of 13 for 147 yards and two scores.
Coach Bill Doba seemed satisfied.
“For the first scrimmage, I thought the tackling was crisp. Defensively, we played the run well, and offensively, I thought we threw the ball well,” said Doba. “Defensively, we gave up some scores but we played just base stuff. The things we gave up were the long pass, which was good for the offense. I thought we threw the ball well, Gary (Rogers) made a couple of really nice passes.”
Redshirt freshman Marcus Richmond scored both of WSU’s rushing touchdowns. Richmond finished with 40 yards on 12 carries. Chris Ivory, another redshirt freshman, led all rushers with 60 yards on eight carries.
The Cougars’ next scrimmage is Friday at Martin Stadium.
