NHL: Panthers rally to win fifth straight

Martin Gelinas scored two goals, including the winner in overtime, leading the Florida Panthers over the Washington Capitals 3-2 Friday night.

Both goals were redirected shots from in front of the net.

Gregory Campbell also scored and Ed Belfour made 30 saves for the Panthers, who have won five straight.

Sabres 6, Islanders 4: At Buffalo, N.Y., Chris Drury scored twice, sparking Buffalo’s five-goal first period in a victory over New York.

Stars 4, Red Wings 3 (SO): At Detroit, Sergei Zubov scored the only goal of the shootout to lift Dallas to a comeback victory over Detroit.

Blackhawks 3, Blue Jackets 1: At Chicago, Martin Havlat ended a 13-game goal drought and added an assist as Chicago defeated Columbus to snap a six-game losing skid.

Lightning 4, Carolina 2: At Raleigh, N.C., Vincent Lecavalier scored his NHL-leading 50th goal and added two assists to lead Tampa Bay to a victory over Carolina.

Devils 3, Flyers 1: At East Rutherford, N.J., Mike Rupp and Travis Zajac scored late in the second period to lead New Jersey to a victory over Philadelphia.

Jay Pandolfo added an empty-net goal with 15.6 seconds remaining, and Martin Brodeur made 14 saves to earn his 45th win.

Sharks 4, Coyotes 2: At San Jose, Calif., Patrick Rissmiller had a goal and an assist, Jonathan Cheechoo added a goal and San Jose kept pace in the tight Pacific Division race with a victory over Phoenix.

Senators 5, Canadiens 2: At Ottawa, Dany Heatley got his 47th goal and Mike Fisher scored twice as Ottawa reached 100 points with the victory over Montreal.

Fisher, Jason Spezza and Mike Comrie scored in the first period to help Ottawa reach 100 points for the fourth straight season.

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall was helped off the ice and taken to a hospital after injuring his right hip on a check from the Dallas Stars’ Joel Lundqvist just 24 seconds into the game in Detroit. … Forward Ryan Smyth missed the Islanders’ game at Buffalo because of leg injury, further depleting New York’s roster for its final playoff push.
