Comedienne to perform at EWU
Kathy Buckley, billed as America’s first hearing-impaired comedienne, comes to Eastern Washington University tonight for a “Celebration of Ability.”
Buckley, a five-time American Comedy Award nominee as Best Stand-Up Female Comedienne, was the focus of the Emmy-winning documentary “I Can Hear the Laughter.”
She has made a guest appearance on the TV series “Touched by an Angel” and won critical acclaim for her one-woman off-Broadway show, “Don’t Buck With Me/Now Hear This!”
Buckley, the author of “If You Could Hear What I See: Lessons About Life, Luck, and the Choices We Make” (Dutton, 2001), also has appeared worldwide as a motivational speaker on overcoming obstacles with dignity, courage and laughter.
In addition to her hearing loss, she has faced such challenges as intermittent paralysis in her legs after being run over by a Jeep while sunbathing on a beach when she was in her teens, and a later bout with cervical cancer.
Tonight’s event begins at 6 p.m. at Showalter Auditorium on EWU’s Cheney campus.
It is free and open to the public.
Buckley’s appearance here is part of the university’s Diversity Initiative.
