Wednesday’s AL results
Royals 3, Angels 1: At Kansas City, Mo., light-hitting Esteban German hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning to lead the Royals to a victory over Los Angeles. German had three major league home runs in 441 at-bats before coming up with one out and runners on first and second in the seventh. The utility infielder knocked Ervin Santana’s 1-0 pitch 402 feet over the wall in left for his first homer in his last 144 at-bats.
Red Sox 6, Athletics 4: At Boston, Josh Beckett had enough left to escape a seventh-inning jam and the Red Sox held off Oakland. Beckett became the first Red Sox pitcher to win his first six starts since Roger Clemens in 1991.
Indians 7, Blue Jays 6 (11): At Cleveland, Travis Hafner dribbled an RBI double down the third-base line, out of the reach of Toronto’s overshifted infield, and the Indians beat the Blue Jays in 11 innings.
Tigers 3, Orioles 2: At Detroit, Gary Sheffield went 4 for 4 with a home run and an RBI single, and Craig Monroe hit a tiebreaking home run in the sixth inning to lead the Tigers past Baltimore.
Devil Rays 4, Twins 3 (10): At St. Petersburg, Fla., pinch-hitter Dioner Navarro drove in the winning run with a grounder in the 10th inning and Tampa Bay slipped past Minnesota.
Yankees vs. Rangers, ppd.: At Arlington, Texas, the scheduled game between New York and Texas was postponed by rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.
