Colleges: Holmon, Bergland earn track honors

Idaho’s David Holmon and Heather Bergland were named the Western Athletic Conference men’s and women’s outdoor track and field athletes of the week Tuesday.

Holmon, a sophomore, hit the first NCAA Regional qualifying mark of his career with a personal-best leap of 49 feet, 7 1/4 inches in the triple jump at the Vandal Jamboree last weekend.

Bergland, a sophomore, won the women’s 100-meter hurdles at the Vandal Jamboree with a personal-best time of 13.92 seconds.

“EWU’s Curtis Suver was named Big Sky Conference men’s track athlete of the week for his performance at the Ken Shannon Invitational in Seattle last Friday.

Suver placed fifth in the 1,500 with a time of 3:48.56, which ranks him third in school history.

Baseball

Washington State’s non-conference game against visiting Lewis-Clark State College was postponed because of lightning. The game will be made up at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Pullman.
