Phillies 9, Diamondbacks 3: At Phoenix, Ryan Howard hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh inning to lead Philadelphia over Arizona. Howard, who entered hitting .198, hit reliever Brandon Medders’ first pitch 371 feet into the right-field seats to erase a 3-0 deficit.
Mets 5, Giants 3: At San Francisco, Carlos Delgado doubled in the tying run in the eighth inning and David Wright had a go-ahead, two-run double in the ninth to lead New York past the Giants. Delgado also had a solo home run that landed in McCovey Cove – the third time he’s done that and the most by a visiting player.
Cardinals 9, Rockies 2: At St. Louis, Adam Wainwright worked six innings and the Cardinals scored in multiple innings for the first time in seven games in a victory over Colorado.
Brewers 3, Nationals 1: At Milwaukee, Geoff Jenkins homered and drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth and the Brewers beat Washington for their sixth straight win.
Astros 3, Reds 2: At Cincinnati, Lance Berkman homered for the third game in a row to lead Houston over the Reds.
Cubs 1, Pirates 0: At Chicago, Jason Marquis retired the first 16 batters he faced and finished with a three-hitter to lead the Cubs to a win over Pittsburgh.
Braves 3, Padres 2: At Atlanta, Chipper Jones and Andruw Jones came up with two-out, run-scoring hits in the seventh inning, giving John Smoltz and the Braves a win over ex-teammate Greg Maddux and San Diego.
Dodgers 5, Marlins 3: At Miami, Brett Tomko took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and Los Angeles edged Florida for Tomko’s first victory of the season.
