Orioles 6, Red Sox 3: At Boston, Nick Markakis and Melvin Mora had four hits apiece and Brian Burres pitched five innings for his first major league victory to help Baltimore win its fourth consecutive game, beating Boston.
White Sox 2, Royals 1: At Chicago, Jon Garland held the Royals without a run for eight innings and Chicago beat Kansas City. A.J. Pierzynski’s solo homer to right off Odalis Perez broke a scoreless tie with two outs in the fourth.
Angels 6, Rangers 3: At Arlington, Texas, John Lackey pitched into the ninth inning before departing after Sammy Sosa’s 596th career homer as Los Angeles beat Texas. Michael Young broke up Lackey’s bid for his sixth career shutout with an RBI double.
Blue Jays 5, Devil Rays 1: At Toronto, A.J. Burnett struck out a season-high 10 to win for the first time in three starts and Toronto ended a nine-game losing streak with a victory over Tampa Bay. Scott Kazmir lost for the first time since April 8, giving up five runs, four earned, and nine hits over 6 1/3 innings.
Tigers 7, Twins 3: At Minneapolis, Mike Maroth allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings and Carlos Guillen homered and drove in four runs to help Detroit to a victory over Minnesota. Detroit has won all seven of Maroth’s starts this season, and the Tigers have won 10 of their past 11 games.
Athletics 8, Indians 2: At Oakland, Calif., Jake Cust hit a tiebreaking two-run homer off C.C. Sabathia in the seventh inning and a two-run single off Roberto Hernandez in the eighth to lead Oakland to the win over Cleveland. Joe Blanton took a shutout into the sixth inning to earn the win.
