Boys track and field
Lake City’s John Coyle placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 58.52 seconds and took the 1,600 in 4:22.04 and the Timberwolves won the team title at the 5A Region I meet Friday at the Volmer Bowl in Lewiston.
LC also won the 400 relay in 44.25.
Lewiston was second, Coeur d’Alene third, followed by Post Falls.
“Moscow’s Anthony Williams won the 200 (23.20) and 400 (51.20) and the Bears ran away with the team title at the 4A Region I meet at Lewiston’s Volmer Bowl.
Lakeland took second, Sandpoint third.
“Host Timberlake leads the 3A District I meet after the first day at Spirit Lake. The two-day event wraps up today.
“Wallace is in first place after the first day of competition at the 1A championships in Kamiah.
Girls track and field
Lewiston won the 800 relay (1:46.58) and 1,600 relay (4:06.88) and took the team title at the 5A Region I meet at the Volmer Bowl in Lewiston.
Lake City’s Arica Johnson won the 100 hurdles (16.03) and the 300 hurdles (47.01) while leading the Timberwolves to a second-place finish. Post Falls finished third, followed by Coeur d’Alene.
“Katie Adams of Sandpoint won the 100 hurdles (16.77) and was second in the 300 hurdles (51.22) as the Bulldogs won the 4A Region I meet in Lewiston. Lakeland was second, followed by Moscow.
“Bonners Ferry’s Kaitie Poston won the discus with a throw of 142 feet, 4 1/2 inches and the Badgers lead the 3A District I meet at Spirit Lake after the first day. Kellogg is second, followed by host Timberlake. The two-day event concludes today.
“Kootenai is in fifth place after the first day of competition at the 1A regional championships in Kamiah.
Softball
Sandpoint scored five runs in the top of the eighth and upset host Lakeland 12-8 in a 4A Region I loser-out playoff game in Rathdrum. Kim Guercio went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs to lead the Bulldogs (6-19). Sandpoint advances to play at top-seeded Moscow today at noon in the championship while Lakeland’s (9-18) season is finished.
“Darbie Sheldon hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth, giving St. Maries a 10-9 win over Kellogg in a 3A District I playoff game at Spirit Lake. Sam Siron added three hits, two runs and an RBI for the Lumberjacks. … In other tournament action at Spirit Lake, Afton Allred and Holly Edelblute each had two hits and two RBIs as host Timberlake routed Priest River 11-1 in five innings. Timberlake (19-6) advances to play St. Maries (11-11) today at noon at Spirit Lake for the championship. Priest River (7-15) and Kellogg (10-12) will play in a loser-out game at 10 a.m.
Baseball
Defending 4A state champion Sandpoint will be making a return trip to the state tournament after beating Lakeland (6-19) 8-0 in the 4A Region I title game in Sandpoint. Cody Reichart went 3 for 4 and drove in two runs for the Bulldogs (15-11). The 4A state tournament is Thursday through May 19 at Bishop Kelly High School in Boise.
“Chris James went 2 for 3 with two RBIs as top-seeded Bonners Ferry beat fourth-seeded and host Timberlake 7-1 in a 3A District I tournament game at Spirit Lake. … Elsewhere, Marc Grubham went 2 for 4 and drove in four runs as second-seeded St. Maries topped third-seeded Priest River 12-7 in Rathdrum. The Lumberjacks (13-10) advance to play Bonners Ferry (18-7) at 10 a.m. today at Spirit Lake for a berth to the state tournament, Thursday through May 19 at Treasure Valley CC in Ontario, Ore. Priest River (10-10) and Timberlake (5-19) will meet in a loser-out game at noon today at Spirit Lake.
Boys tennis
Moscow’s Stephen Kwaitkoski defeated Sandpoint’s Wyatt Pearson 6-0, 6-0 while Sandpoint’s Mikka Nostdahl beat Lakeland’s Davis Winslow 6-1, 6-0 at the 4A Region I tournament at Travers Park at Sandpoint. Kwaitkoski and Nostdahl will meet in the championship today at 11:30 a.m. at Travers Park.
Girls tennis
Sandpoint’s Abby Helander and teammate Hailey Woodruff won their matches and will play for the championship today at 11:30 a.m. at Travers Park in Sandpoint.
