Taylor Forge’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh scored Matt Blankenship and gave Lewiston a 7-6 win over Centennial Saturday in a 5A baseball state play-in game in Lewiston.

The Bengals entered the seventh trailing 6-5 until Tom Kerr’s RBI single tied it at six before Forge’s hit won it for Lewiston.

The Bengals (23-5) advance to play Twin Falls in the first round of the state tournament in a rematch of last year’s state title game Thursday at 10 a.m. at Borah High School.

Softball

Randi Parks allowed four hits while striking out nine as Mountain View blanked Post Falls 3-0 in a 5A state play-in game at Fruitland. All three Mountain View runs were unearned. Blake Meredith took the loss for the Trojans (16-12), who are finished for the season.

Brigitte Lowe’s two-run homer sparked a six-run fifth-inning and gave Moscow a 7-1 win over visiting Sandpoint (6-20) in the 4A Region I championship game in Moscow. Sarah Hawley picked up the win for the Bears after allowing three hits in the complete game. Moscow (17-9) advances to the state tournament, which begins Thursday in Coeur d’Alene. The Bulldogs’ season has concluded.

Tennis

Lewiston won the team title at the 5A Region I tournament at Lewiston. The Bengals Rye Hewett topped teammate Kim Fong 6-2, 6-1 in the girls singles championship and will advance to the state tournament as the top qualifier. Fong is the second seed to state and Coeur d’Alene’s Lauren Galante earned the final spot.

In girls doubles, Amanda Mall and Kathleen Noss are the champions and are the top qualifiers for state. Lake City’s Zoe Almeida and Elise Cunningham are the second seed and Lewiston’s Marina Wold and Theresa Kucera earned the third spot.

For the boys, Coeur d’Alene’s Matt Marceau is the top qualifier after beating Lewiston’s Alex Mayton 6-3, 6-1 in the championship. Lake City’s Byron Grey is No. 2 and Mayton is No. 3.

In boys doubles, Lake City’s Jared St. Peter and James Souza are the champions and top qualifiers to state. Lewiston’s Ryan LaPlante and David Sarbacher are No. 2 and Coeur d’Alene’s Kyle Plue and Willie Bruno are No. 3.

The 5A state tournament begins Friday in Boise.
