Mortensen completes GU’s bid for title series
Gonzaga secured a spot in the West Coast Conference championship series with a 7-1 win over No. 17 Pepperdine (31-19, 10-7) Saturday at Eddy D. Field Stadium in Malibu, Calif.
Clayton Mortensen (8-2) picked up the win for the Bulldogs after pitching his fifth complete game of the season.
Mortensen allowed one run on five hits and struck out 15.
Bryan Winston provided the offense for the Zags, going 2 for 3 and scoring three runs.
Gonzaga will play sixth-ranked San Diego in a best-of-3 series in San Diego on May 25-27. The winner of the conference championship will earn the WCC’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
GU (32-21, 15-5) will finish the season second in the conference standings, their highest finish in WCC history.

CCS scored three times in the ninth and won the opener 5-3. Chris Bozo hit a home run for the Sasquatch.
In the second game, CCS scored six runs in the fourth and cruised to a 10-3 win.
Cody Brubaker, Tom Barlow, Brett Henry, Adam Smith and Kody Anderson all hit doubles for the Sasquatch (28-19, 18-11).
