Spiders defeat Tacoma in their PDL soccer debut at SFCC
The Spokane Spiders of the Premier Development League of the United Soccer Leagues beat Tacoma FC 3-2 Saturday to begin their inaugural season at Spokane Falls Community College.
Grant Lundberg (Lewis and Clark) scored the Spiders’ first goal in the fifth minute. After a Tacoma goal, Jake Moug scored off an assist from player-coach Dan Philip to put Spokane ahead 2-1.
Philip, who came to Spokane from England, was enthusiastic about his team’s win.
“We jelled well and scored some terrific goals and the early goals that we scored really helped us out,” said Philip.
Halver Mikkelsen scored on an assist from Matt Friesen (Whitworth) in the second half to give Spokane breathing room.
Tacoma FC added a goal in the 75th minute to cap the scoring.
Spokane will play today at 2 p.m. against the Cascade Surge at SFCC.
