Ex-Zag Batista will lead basketball clinic

Young basketball fans, take note. Former Gonzaga University basketball player and current European League player J.P. Batista will be in Spokane on June 5 to lead the Liberty Lake Basketball Clinic for kids in grades 2-5.

The clinic, open to boys and girls, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Central Valley High School, 810 S. Sullivan Road. Kids will have a chance to practice their basketball skills and receive a T-shirt. The cost is $12. Call (509) 755-6729 to register.

Mount St. Helens

Mobius Kids will host a special anniversary show on the massive Mount St. Helens eruption on May 18, 1980. The show will include a slide show and a presentation by people who witnessed the eruption, which blew down hundreds of square miles of forest around the mountain and sent ash into communities hundreds of miles away.

The presentation will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday at Mobius Kids, 808 W. Main St. Seating is limited. The presentation is free with the price of admission, which is $5.75 per person. Infants under 12 months are free. Call (509) 624-5437 for more information.

Baseball fever

Kids of all ages are invited to Auntie’s Bookstore to hear Terry Trueman read from his book “7 Days at the Hot Corner” about a boy whose baseball team is on the way to the city championships.
