Badgers take fourth after win over Filer
ONTARIO, Ore. – The Bonners Ferry baseball team’s state championship hopes were squashed after their 4-0 loss to Kimberly on Thursday, so the Badgers assured themselves of the next best thing.
A.J. Bennett hit a two-run single in the third and Chris James added a two-run double in the sixth as Bonners Ferry topped Filer 7-3 Saturday in the State 3A tournament consolation game at Treasure Valley Community College.
With the win, the Badgers finished fourth in the state.
Filer struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the first. After closing the deficit to 2-1 in the second, the Badgers scored three times in the third to take a 4-3 lead.
Bonners Ferry added three runs in the sixth to put the game away.
James picked up the win for the Badgers after allowing four hits in the complete game.
Bonners Ferry finished the season with a 21-7 record.
