Lovett, Lang top Sandpoint lineup
The Festival at Sandpoint this year will have a distinctive L theme, as in Lyle Lovett, Los Lonely Boys, Leroy Bell and Jonny Lang.
Plenty of other parts of the alphabet will be represented as well, including G for Gershwin, O for O’Connor and P for Phat Phriday.
Here’s the lineup, as announced Friday by festival head Dyno Wahl:
“Aug. 2: “A Musical Reunion” with the Spokane Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Gary Sheldon. The kickoff concert will feature works and soloists from the festival’s first 25 years, including Jason Moody and Kelly Farris playing Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins and Greta Beggs playing Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. 7:30 p.m., $29.95 adults, $9.95 youth (all prices do not include tax and city park fee).
“Aug. 3: The first “Phat Phriday!” concert, with singer-songwriter Leroy Bell and blues prodigy Jonny Lang. 7 p.m., all tickets $44.95.
“Aug. 4: “Super SRO Saturday” featuring indie band Bearfoot opening for eclectic country legend Lyle Lovett, a longtime favorite in Sandpoint. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., concert starts at 6 p.m., all tickets $54.95.
“Aug. 5: “Family Concert,” featuring the Spokane Youth Orchestra conducted by Sheldon and Verne Windham. There will be an “instrument petting zoo,” clowns and face-painting. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., all tickets $5.
“Aug. 9: Reckless Kelly, a hard-driving band out of the Austin music scene, and Robert Earl Keen, a Texas singer-songwriter. Complimentary microbrew tasting begins at 6 p.m., concert starts at 7:30 p.m., all tickets $29.95.
“Aug. 10: The second “Phat Phriday!” concert, featuring folk-blues-country singer-songwriter Jackie Greene and Los Lonely Boys, who won a Grammy for their hit song “Heaven” in 2005. 7 p.m., all tickets $49.95.
“Aug. 11: “Super Silver Celebration Saturday,” featuring Irish singer songwriter Josh Ritter and French-American singer Madeleine Peyroux. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., concert starts at 6 p.m., all tickets $44.95.
“Aug. 12: Grand Finale Concert featuring Mark O’Connor with the Spokane Symphony Orchestra. O’Connor, a fiddle-violin virtuoso, will play his “Fiddle Concerto,” “Appalachian Waltz,” and “Fanfare for the Volunteer.” The orchestra will play works by Ives, Grofe and Copland. Complimentary wine tasting begins at 4:30 p.m., concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets $34.95 adults, $10.95 for youth.
