People: What’s up with that, dawg?
Whoever wins the “American Idol” title tonight, Paula Abdul is probably the person most thankful to survive the season.
The “Idol” judge broke her nose over the weekend when she fell while trying to avoid stepping on her Chihuahua.
“She’s a little sore but is doing fine,” said her publicist, David Brokaw.
Abdul, 44, told the syndicated entertainment TV show “Extra” that she tore cartilage in her nose and fractured a toe.
“I took a nasty fall … trying not to hurt my dog. I bruised myself on my arm … my chest, my waist all the way down to my hip. All from my little chubby Tulip,” she said.
The dog wasn’t hurt, Brokaw said.
It isn’t Abdul’s first injury while judging the competition on the hit Fox network show.
She wore a sling in 2004 after surgery on her thumb, which was infected by a flesh-eating fungus following an unsanitary manicure at a Los Angeles nail salon.
“Being a professional dancer, I’m no stranger to pain, but this time the pain was so excruciating that even my hair touching my thumb caused me to scream,” she said then.
Giving Pax a chance
Angelina Jolie says she plans to take a year off from filmmaking to spend more time with her partner, Brad Pitt, and their children.
Jolie, 31, and Pitt, 43, have four children: 5-year-old Maddox, who was adopted from Cambodia; Pax Thien, 3, from Vietnam; 2-year-old Zahara, from Ethiopia; and daughter Shiloh, who was born to the couple last May.
She told a Vietnamese newspaper in March that she would stay at home to help Pax adjust to his new life.
Double-bagger
Dennis Quaid and his wife, Kimberly, are expecting twins by a surrogate mother.
Quaid, 53, whose screen credits include “The Rookie,” “The Right Stuff,” “Far From Heaven,” “The Big Easy” and “Great Balls of Fire!,” has a teenage son from his previous marriage to Meg Ryan.
Make room for daddy
A Los Angeles judge has restored former “Baywatch” star David Hasselhoff‘s right to visit his two teenage daughters, which had been suspended over a videotape showing the recovering alcoholic apparently intoxicated.
Portions of the video showed Hasselhoff, 54, wearing only blue jeans, lying on a floor and clumsily eating a hamburger while one of his daughters scolds him about his drinking.
Urban temptations
Country singer and recovering alcoholic Keith Urban was offered a complimentary bottle of red wine during a recent Qantas Airways flight in his native Australia.
“I knew I was back in South Australia when the host came up to me, smiled, gave me a bottle of red and said, ‘Welcome to Adelaide Mr. Urban,’ ” he told a concert audience.
Qantas said the gaffe was a routine gesture “by an individual staff member who genuinely did not realize who the passenger was.”
