People: Depp’s Sparrow to fly again?
Three journeys as Capt. Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies may not be enough for Johnny Depp.
Before Wednesday’s Tokyo premiere of the series’ third installment, “At World’s End,” Depp said he would consider taking the oddball character out for one more spin.
“It’s been a great experience,” he said. “Trying to discover who Captain Jack was, getting slapped around by the Disney people – it was all fun.”
The new film completes what had originally been intended as a trilogy of movies based on the ride by the same name at Disneyland.
But Depp, who was nominated for an Oscar for his quirky portrayal of Captain Jack, says the pirates may rise again – though producer Jerry Bruckheimer cautions that no one will be jumping right back into the waters.
“This is the end for now,” he says. “I think everybody is exhausted and needs some time off. We’re all going to take a little break.”
Says Depp: “There was always that potential that each of us would have to say goodbye to the character. But if it is over, which one never knows, Captain Jack will always be with me.”
007-pound weakling
The latest cinematic James Bond, Daniel Craig, told reporters at the Cannes Film Festival that he’s let himself get a little flabby since undergoing a tough fitness regimen for last year’s “Casino Royale.”
“I had some down time,” Craig says. “I got to enjoy myself a bit. I’m getting back into shape now, I’m kind of building myself up again.”
The script for next Bond film, not yet titled, hasn’t been finalized.
Foot in the door
Paul McCartney snagged Natalie Portman to star in his new music video – thanks to his fashion designer-daughter, Stella.
Portman makes a cameo as a ghost in the video for “Dance Tonight,” from the former Beatle’s new album, “Memory Almost Full.”
His daughter makes nonleather shoes that Portman buys, McCartney says, “So I rang her up and said, ‘Hey, I’m Stella’s dad!’ “
Voting patterns
Give designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka some of the credit for Jordin Sparks winning this season’s “American Idol.”
Not only did the 17-year-old chanteuse wear Badgley Mischka gowns during her “Idol” appearances both Tuesday and Wednesday, they cast their share of telephone ballots, too.
“James told me he voted until his fingers were sore,” Badgley says.
