Braves 2, Mets 1: At Atlanta, John Smoltz recorded his 200th win with another triumph over one of his best friends. Smoltz beat Tom Glavine with seven shutout innings and Matt Diaz homered for Atlanta, which won two of three in the series to cut New York’s lead in the N.L. East to 1 1/2 games.
Nationals 4, Reds 3: At Cincinnati, Dmitri Young went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, Mike Bacsik got his first win in almost three years and Washington won for the fourth time in five games.
