WNBA: Catchings leads Fever past Sparks

Tamika Catchings had 24 points and eight assists to lead Indiana to an 83-70 victory over Los Angeles on Thursday night at Indianapolis.

Catchings was 8 for 14 from the field and had five assists.

Chamique Holdsclaw led the Sparks (1-1) with 23 points and six rebounds, while Taj McWilliams-Franklin added 12 points.

Liberty 81, Mystics 76: At New York, Erin Thorn and Shameka Christon both scored 17 points and Cathrine Kraayeveld added 16 to key New York’s win over Washington.

Barbara Farris scored 11 points for New York, which scored the final six points – all from the free-throw line – to improve to 2-0.

Alana Beard scored 23 points and DeLisha Milton-Jones had 14 points and eight rebounds for Washington.
