Find fun for family at gem, rock show

The Spokesman-Review

Next week’s Gem, Mineral, Rock and Jewelry Show, held by the North Idaho Mineral Club, offers fun for the whole family.

It will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. next Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 3 at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds.

Vendors from several states will have all kinds of rock-related items, from rough rock to fine jewelry. Several entertaining features will be directed at children, who always seem to love rocks.

Hourly door prizes will be handed out, and on Sunday, two grand prizes will be awarded – a beautiful, costly specimen of azurite and malachite from China and a necklace and earring set made especially for the show, of freshwater pearls, gold beads and natural ruby beads.

A raffle will be held for a new rock tumbler, as well as rocks to tumble. Tumblers also will be working as a demonstration.

The North Idaho Mineral Club, which has been active for almost 60 years, meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Post Falls Senior Center in the Dougall Room. Everyone is welcome.

The club is active in earth science education and sponsors workshops and field trips for members.
