In its first six days in release, “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” took in an estimated $401 million worldwide – the largest of all time, besting the $382 million opening for “Spider-Man 3,” according to Walt Disney Pictures.

That total includes $142 million in the U.S. over the four-day Memorial Day weekend, topping the $122.8 million record set last year by “X-Men: The Last Stand.”

“Spider-Man 3” remains the record-holder for an opening three-day weekend, with $151.1 million.
