CHENEY CITY COUNCIL

At stake: Positions 2, 5 and 6.
Incumbent Councilman Robert Stockton was trouncing challenger Rich CrystalWolfe Baker 603-152 while incumbent Patrick Rast was losing to Doug Nixon, 436-326. Annette Mather was whipping Tim Gainer 531-238 for the seat being vacated by Les Harris.Planning for growth, preserving the city’s small-town atmosphere and assuring an adequate water supply were issues for the candidates. Nixon and Mather led their primaries.

DEER PARK CITY COUNCIL

At stake: Position 2.
Incumbent Randy Bean had a 267-212 lead over challenger Mary J. Gray. Bean campaigned for better jobs; Gray, for better streets.Bean is a paramedic with 12 children; Gray is a former restaurant cook.

FAIRFIELD TOWN COUNCIL

At stake: Position 3.
Incumbent Mary Branon was being defeated by mail carrier Kami Michelle Thieren, 81-33.Thieren was drawn to Fairfield by its small-town charm.

CITY OF LIBERTY LAKE MAYOR

Incumbent Steve Peterson is in a tight race to keep his job against City Councilwoman Wendy Van Orman. After counting Tuesday, Peterson led 496-480. Both have been in office since the city incorporated six years ago.Peterson argued that he’s a proven leader. Van Orman said she would give residents a louder voice.

MEDICAL LAKE CITY COUNCIL

At stake: Position 6.
Challenger John Paikuli was leading incumbent Sam Julagay 309-221. Both wanted to deal with a water shortage that led the city to impose a construction moratorium.Julagay, 73, is a psychiatric social worker; Paikuli, 37, owns an insurance agency.
ROCKFORD MAYORAppointed Mayor Gary Wagner was fending off Howard Brutschy for the two years left in former Mayor Ed Baune’s unfinished term. Wagner had 57 votes to Brutschy’s 46.Wagner previously was mayor from 2000 to 2002 and served 10 years on the Town Council. Brutschy served four years on the council and was public works director.
