Pac-10 picks

Vince Grippi, Staff Writer The Spokesman-Review

The rivers didn’t run red. There were no locusts or frogs. No flying horses. But there was one sign of the apocalypse last week. We were 4-0 on the picks.

We were shocked, too. And there is no way we can miss more than, say, three games this week. That’s because there are only three games in the conference, and only one seems up in the air.

As always, the listed line is for your entertainment purposes only.

Oregon at Arizona, tonight (Oregon by 12.5): Pity the poor Wildcats. Not only do they have to play one of the nation’s best teams, they’ve made the Ducks mad. Arizona upset the Ducks 37-10 in Eugene last season and Oregon is out for some payback. Still, Arizona’s defense is playing too well for this to be a blowout. Oregon 35-31.

Cal at Washington (Cal by 7): Does Jake Locker play? If he does, this game is closer than you might think. But if he doesn’t – and the guess here is he won’t – the Bears win big. Cal 38-17.

Oregon State at Washington State (WSU by 2): Check the records. The Beavers have a winning mark, the Cougars don’t. Yet, WSU is favored. What do the oddsmakers know? Whatever it is, we think they are right, though we don’t think they’re not emphatic enough. WSU 27-14.

Last week: 4-0 overall, 2-1 vs. spread; Season: 44-20 overall, 23-37 vs. spread.
