Clark beats CCS for NWAACC soccer title
Shawn McCready’s unassisted goal from 18 yards out in the 99th minute led the Clark College Penguins to a 1-0 overtime victory over the Community Colleges of Spokane in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community College’s championship men’s soccer game Sunday at Tukwila, Wash.
•Raphael Cox scored in the fourth minute and the Washington Huskies (8-7-4, 3-4-3) went on to a 1-1 Pacific-10 Conference regular season-ending tie with the San Diego State Aztecs (8-7-4, 4-4-2) at San Diego.
Women’s basketball
Natalie Orrell scored 17 points, pulled down seven rebounds and handed out four assists as the Whitworth Pirates (1-1) captured the consolation championship of the Midway Classic with a 76-68 victory over the Concordia (Minn.) Cobbers (0-2) at Chicago.
•Anna Harp led four players in double figures with 21 points to the the California-Davis Aggies (4-0) to a 69-58 victory over the Washington Huskies (1-4) at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic in Honolulu.
Katelan Redmon (Lewis and Clark) had 11 points, six rebounds and three assists in a losing effort for the Huskies.
•Lane College used a 12-0 run late in the second half to claim the Shoreline Community College Turkey Shoot-Out championship with a 65-54 win over the Community Colleges of Spokane.
Liz Beardslee (Kettle Falls) led CCS (2-1) with 18 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Baseball
Trevor Shull, a senior pitcher at Central Valley, has signed a national letter of intent to play at Centenary (La.) College.
