College basketball: Moore leads UConn past Stanford
Maya Moore scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead No. 2 Connecticut to a 66-54 victory over No. 4 Stanford on Thursday night in the Paradise Jam at Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Kalana Greene added 18 points and Tina Charles had 13 and 11 rebounds for the Huskies (3-0).
Connecticut scored the first nine points and took a 22-8 lead on a jumper by Charles with 9:35 to play in the first half. They led 31-22 at halftime.
Candice Wiggins led Stanford (3-1) with 15 points.
(9) Duke 53, (22) Purdue 41: At Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands, Jasmine Thomas scored 15 points to lead the Blue Devils (4-0) to a victory over the Boilermakers (2-1) in the Paradise Jam.
(10) Oklahoma 69, (14) Arizona St. 57: At Cancun, Mexico, Courtney Paris had 16 points and 19 rebounds, and sister Ashley scored 21 points to help the Sooners (1-2) win for the first time this season, over the Sun Devils (2-2) in the Caribbean Challenge. Briann January (Lewis and Clark HS) scored 16 points for Arizona State.

George Mason 87, (18) Kansas St. 77: At Lake Buena Vista, Fla., John Vaughan scored 21 points to lead the Patriots (4-0) to an upset of the Wildcats (3-1) in the opening round of the Old Spice Classic.
(19) Southern Illinois 63, Chattanooga 41: At Anaheim, Calif., Randal Falker scored 21 points and the Salukis (2-0) dominated the second half in a victory over the Mocs (1-2) in the opening round of the inaugural Anaheim Classic.
(20) Villanova 76, UCF 68: At Lake Buena Vista, Fla., Scottie Reynolds scored 19 points and Corey Fisher added 18 to lead the Wildcats (3-0) to a victory over the Knights (2-1) in the opening round of the Old Spice Classic.
