People: Old McDreamy will have a farm
Patrick Dempsey may play Dr. McDreamy on “Grey’s Anatomy,” but he’d eventually like to be Old MacDonald.
“I can be perfectly happy living in the country, having a little farm and working occasionally,” the 41-year-old actor says.
Last May, Dempsey bought a farm in Maine, where he grew up. “It was like, you know what? I’m done. I now know what I want.”
Dempsey, who co-stars in the new Disney film “Enchanted,” will next be seen in the romantic comedy “Made of Honor.”
“There’s a core audience who’s watching ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ who expects something from you when they go to the box office, so you want to deliver that,” he says.
“I’m going to wait to see what happens with these movies, and we’ll make choices after that. You can’t get too far ahead of yourself.”
Dempsey, who has three children with his wife, Jillian, says “family – and all of its joys and heartaches – is the grounding force.
“It’s why you do everything. It’s why you go to work, and why you put up with what you have to put up with, why you do what you have to do. Because you want a better life for them.”
Way to go, pumpkin
Grammy winner Carrie Underwood, who sings the end-title “Enchanted” tune, “Ever, Ever After,” says that of all the Disney princesses, she related most to Cinderella.
“I’ve never been scrubbing floors or cleaning toilets growing up. And my family was great,” the former “American Idol” says.
“But just to go from small-town girl to red carpets and cameras,” she says, “it’s definitely a Cinderella story.”
Back on his feet
Wayne Newton, battling a recurring heart infection, has been cleared to participate in the upcoming “Dancing With the Stars” tour.
The 65-year-old singer was eliminated from the ABC dance competition last month.
Leftovers? Good luck
Marie Osmond, who remains in the hunt for the “Dancing With the Stars” crown, skipped the family Thanksgiving get-together in Utah to stay in Los Angeles to rehearse.
The holiday festivities for the show-biz clan were particularly poignant this year following the death of family patriarch George Osmond.
Asked beforehand how many people would show up, Donny Osmond joked: “This year it’s going to be 4,562.”
The man’s best friend
Rapper Kanye West has no qualms about continuing his tour despite his mother’s death.
“There’s nothing that she loved more than to come to the shows and scream louder than any fan, because she was my first fan that was screaming before anybody else,” he says.
“If she was here, she would tell me to ‘Get on that stage and kill it, dawg.’ That was her favorite word, dawg.”
